This year we have started the DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) Program. We wanted to give our students a place to write book reviews and to learn about new books to read.
My take on The House on Mango Street was that it was a pretty captivating story. It depicts the life of a 13 year old girl who wants to be someone other than herself. She doesn't like her name of where she lives. I didn't like the book as much but i didn't hate it. It was a good book but i wouldn't pick it up and read in my spare time. I like the way the author phrased certain sentences. There were lots of plot twists. Every chapter had a different story. More interesting the more they go along.
I would recommend this book to anyone going through a tough time in their life and they need a story that they can relate to.
